Seeking refuge from the ghosts, he hides inside an old yellow rabbit animatronic, Spring Bonnie. The suit's springlock mechanisms inside fail and snap shut, crushing William to death as his soul inhabits the animatronic, becoming Springtrap. Thirty years later, a horror attraction based on the restaurant chain known as Fazbear's Fright is constructed and Springtrap is unearthed for it. Before opening to the public, however, a fire destroys the attraction, which frees the souls of most of William's victims and destroys the original mascots, though Springtrap escapes.

Story
As the robots drag William's corpse away, Chief Burke escorts everyone out of the mall. The friends go their separate ways, and before leaving Hurricane, Charlie visits her father's grave, remembering a happy day she had with him when she was a child. Charlie and John go to a library to research the history of Fredbear's Family Diner and find an old newspaper article about Sammy's kidnapping with a photograph of Dave, who the newspaper identifies as the diner's co-owner. Jason runs off, intending to rescue Carlton, and Charlie, John, Lamar, Jessica, and Marla break into the restaurant to find him. Finding Carlton, Charlie undoes the spring locks and frees him from the costume.
Family
That fourth unfinished animatronic became Circus Baby and revealed to Charlie that all her memories of her with her father were just recordings made by a camera on a tripod. Circus Baby was the scrap robot in the corner of Henry's workshop in some of Charlie's quote on quote, "memories". The two break into a fight, and Charlie defeats Elizabeth by activating the animatronic her father created to kill him, which impales both of them.
Charlotte Emily
The animatronics were originally intended for Circus Baby's Pizza World, which never opened due to a gas leak.[69] Mike is guided by HandUnit, an AI character similar to the Phone Guy of previous games. HandUnit instructs him about his job, often telling him to disregard safety; the animatronic Baby often gives instructions that contradicts that of HandUnit, but are vital to survival. During the game, Phone Guy from the previous game calls Jeremy to give him hints on how to survive each night while talking about the restaurant's history.
Before college, on her 18th birthday, she began having nightmares, twisted versions of her memories, involving her twin brother, Sammy. In August, she told her aunt that she's going to be accompanied by Jessica, since she's going to attend St. George college. Aunt Jen declined, which led to Charlie’s first ever fight with her aunt.
A total of four robots were built by Henry, each simulating a stage of life (toddler, child, teen, adult). Henry didn't finish the fourth one after he realized that he had gone insane. Elizabeth revealed to Charlie that all her memories of her with her father were just recordings made by a camera on a tripod.
Games
For 36 years Charlie waited in the purgatory pizzeria for her ghost friends to let go of the material world and let her help them pass on. It also may or may not have been helped by her father's hallucinations of giving kids cakes, as the guard at Fazbear's Fright. However, since Charlie never grew up to take any cooking lessons, nor had anything other than remnant and frosting, the cake she prepared wasn't very good. Trying to save herself embarrassment, she pointed saying "Everyone look, it's... uh... William Afton!" and threw the cake on the floor. Assuming she was rudely pranking them, the missing children left her once again.

After a few days, Marionette's bracelet sensors received a signal, causing Charlie to go check it out. It turned out to come not from a child in need of guardship, but rather Lefty, which Henry finally got around to building. The robot immediately forced Charlie inside its hollow interior, trapping her. This was Henry's doing and only now, after capturing her, did he find out who she was. After The Bite of '87, the New Freddy's location was shut down, with Henry scrapping the whole Toy line of animatronics, except for Toy Freddy and Marionette, as Charlie just vanished. Henry, scared by the idea of Marionette returning to haunt him, started work on an animatronic that would capture and trap her, which he called Lefty.
Charlie later tells John that she wants to go back to Aunt Jen's house, as she kept papers that could help them understand the situation that they're facing, so John drives her there. When they are about to leave, Charlie is captured by Twisted Freddy (who is terribly damaged) and introduced into the springlocks trap. Although her friends tried to free her, the trap is activated and Charlie is crushed by the mechanisms of the suit. Right before her childhood home collapsed, John returned to sees Aunt Jen next to Twisted Freddy, where Charlie's hand is reaching out of.
The ragdoll is powered by Henry's emotional energy, unintentionally due to him grieving so much into the doll. Henry then began to recreate Charlotte as a robot, recreating her stages of life (toddler, child, teen, adult). He then also began creating false memories for her, using a camera tripod. The robot copies of Charlotte are powered by the Ella ragdoll, which gave the robots life. The robot copies of Charlotte Emily are unaware of the original Charlie’s death, assuming that the one murdered was Sammy. Later, Charlie remembers about Fredbear's Family Diner, a restaurant owned by her father in New Harmony, which was the predecessor of Freddy's, and she and John drive there.
The yellow Freddy allows them to leave, and Chief Burke arrives to search for the missing Officer Dunn. William attacks in the Spring Bonnie costume, but Charlie activates its spring locks, killing him. As they search for a way out, the four robots come to life and pursue them through the restaurant. William reveals that the robots are possessed by the vengeful ghosts of his victims and boasts that they will hunt down and kill any intruders. The group tries to hide in a party room, but all four robots corner them.
During these calls, it is revealed that the restaurant has become the subject of a police investigation due to various rumors. It is also possible to access hidden Atari-styled minigames that provide further insight on the restaurant's troubled past, showing a purple figure killing multiple children. On the fifth night, the location is put on lockdown due to an unspecified event. At the end of the game, Jeremy receives a paycheck dated 1987, revealing that the events of the game take place before the first Five Nights at Freddy's, and the restaurant is closed, with a new location set to be opened elsewhere.
